How to Take An Effective Mental Health Day
Self Care At It’s Best
Step 1: Give Yourself Grace
Allow yourself to take the day off. Give yourself permission to rest. In order for us to practice self care we have to think we deserve a break. It starts in the mind.
Step 2: Create a Routine
How do you feel about yourself? Do you think you deserve a break? Do you feel your daily demands don’t allow you to rest?
Well, here is the answer. We all deserve a break. But, we have to prioritize ourselves. Say YES to yourself. No one is made to work 24/7 or even 12/7. Feelings can be difficult to understand. You may feel you do not deserve a break, but a routine can help you stay consistent, regardless of how you feel. For example, if you work 5 days a week, have a routine set in place where after work you indulge in self care practices. This can be playing your favorite songs in the shower for an hour. Binge watching your favorite show on Netflix. Maybe hanging out with friends and family. Or even all three!
Step 3: Stay Consistent
Regardless of what routine you decide, stay consistent and committed in allowing yourself time to take care of your mind and body.
If you miss a day, that’s okay. Self care is for you, not against you. This means there is no specific routine you have to follow. If you want to stare at the ceiling till you fall asleep, that’s okay too. You do not have to do anything. These are moments where your brain is not being overstretched or overstimulated.
There is no need to stress about finding the perfect routine. Be positive because self care is for your wellbeing, it’s here to help. Stay consistent in acknowledging that you need self care and take it day by day.
